In other words, you'd have to find to rare examples for that to hold true. It would take an exception to the degradation data set on the far positive side of the scale for the P85D and an exception to the data set on the far negative side of the scale for a P90D for it to actually have less range. You'd have to overcome the nearly 10% higher range out-of-the-gate and the one year or so less degradation based on age. It would take a MUCH higher rate of degradation (given we're talking only 10% give or take a couple of percent after 4-5 years across the board for all cars and all packs) to make up that difference given those two factors and that's assuming ALL 90's have a higher rate of degradation than the 85's which simply isn't the case. The P85D starts life at 253 miles of range and is older based on when the 85kWh packs came out. What does that have to do with what you said? Your blanket statement that a P90D was more likely to have more battery degradation than a P85D so it should be avoided & the P85D should be worth more is kind of a reach, to put it politely.Ī P90D starts life with a rated 270 miles of range and is newer based on when the 90kWh packs came out. So once again I took a look at total front page time, this time by section:ĭid you guess that the opinion section was the most-promoted section of the NYT? I was a bit surprised-I think of the front page as being full of breaking news-but the rest of these rankings make sense to me. This means that an article’s section is a pretty good description of what the article is about (whereas an article can have an unlimited number of tags). These days newspaper sections are a bit more subtle (you can find them in the URL), but for our purposes sections have one great quality: each article can only have one. #Nytimes front page tv#I know from TV that old-timey newspapers used to be organized into sections -each one physically separated from the rest-so that you and the other ad executives could trade them back and forth on the train while drinking scotch for breakfast. So looking at tags is interesting but it doesn’t map cleanly to the fluff/news categories that I’m really after. The “Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)” tag certainly includes serious news, but it also applies to this wedding idea listicle, a review of wellness apps, and this weird admonition to have your kids do more chores. The top five tags are either aboutĪnd like, yeah, those are pretty serious topics in 2021.īut while these tags sound serious, it’s pretty easy to find fluffy articles with serious tags. The chart above (and the rest of the charts to follow) show the distribution of front-page hours, answering the question, “How much total front-page time is allotted to articles of type X ?”Īnyway, this chart paints a fluff-less picture of the NYT front page. So I started by divvying up front-page time by tag : Since I’m trying to figure out which articles are “fluff,” I figured that these tags might provide a clue. I knew that the NYT assigned tags to all its articles in an effort to organize them by topic. Unfortunately there’s no obvious “fluff” field in the NYT API, so I had to get a bit creative. Here’s a better methodology: add up all the front-page hours for all articles and then see how these hours are split between “real news” and “fluff.” Maybe I’m being unfair-maybe “real news” changes quickly, and therefore has high turnover, even if overall the front page is mostly “real news.” organizations have been hacked by the Chinese there are serious wars happening in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and Yemen -but the New York Times is saving their front-page real estate for the real news: a jacket that will make your shoulders pop at a conference in the Alps. The vast majority of front-page articles stay on the front page for less than 24 hours, with the median article lasting about 9.5 hours.īut-get this-10% of front-page articles stay there for less than an hour :Īnd it was on the front page for four days! Let’s not forget: a military junta is shooting protestors in Myanmar 30,000 U.S. If you’re old enough to remember tree-based newspapers, you might expect that articles stay on the front page for about a day. The first question I had was: How often does the front page change? #Nytimes front page series#The end result is a time series of article data, answering the question: What articles were on the front page at time X ? Article turnover Scrapes the front page of the New York Times every five minutesĪssociates them with canonical data from the NYT API In a similar fashion to my A/B testing methodology, I wrote a web scraper that I’m not including these, because that content (usually under the heading “Other Stories”) is clearly material. If you scroll to the bottom of this page you might notice that more stories are loaded as you scroll. The modern-day “front page” of the New York Times Weapons can be either bought or obtained in treasure chests, and spells can be levelled up only by paying for them in the shop.ĭespite its very simplistic approach, I found myself enjoying the game. Levelling up is done by gaining experience from quests and fights, and simply increases your health and magic points. You can attack with a melee weapon or spells, so combat is usually dodging, going for a hit, dodging, attacking again and so on until depleting your opponent of its health points. You only engage with one side mission at a time so there is no need to keep track of what to do next – you either complete the mission or abandoned it to take a new one.įights are real-time, where your opponent has a few basic attacks which you can dodge by rolling away and getting out of harm way. All side quests are small and can be completed within several minutes, with the game telling you where to go and sometimes even drawing you a path. You don't "enter" a town – you simply interact with its structures – for example, you can sleep near an inn or pick up a mission on the board, but you can't enter any of the buildings.ĭungeons are "enterable" structures, but the inside is just a small area displayed from a top-down perspective with monsters to fight and treasure to find. The game is played on a world map where the towns are just clusters of simple buildings. In fact, I thought that this is probably the best introductory Action Role Playing computer game I have ever come across. My feeling is that all design choices were squarely taken to make this appealing to the casual player market and indeed you don't need to be a hardcore player to enjoy the game. #Cat quest 2 mew game seriesThe game is played from a top-down perspective much like earlier era RPGs, but with modern presentation, real-time fights and dungeon exploration.īesides the main quest, the game contains dozens of side quests that can be obtained through a series of quest boards found in the towns. Cat Quest is an action role-playing game, in which you take the role of a cat who sets out to save his sister after she has been kidnapped by another feline. In Affinity Designer, our main area of focus was the rendering engine and seeing how we could improve the handling of highly complex documents, potentially with hundreds of thousands of objects or layers. This has had a complete re-write, and now enables huge documents-even with thousands of pages and many gigabytes’ worth of linked images-to offer instant loading times, smooth live editing and super-fast scroll, pan and zoom across whole files. Mainstream deammonification is a great concept, but in many instances it doesn't make sense. My concern is that we may be doing similar things with other great ideas. That's great for the industry, but maybe not so good for those bleeding out because of the hype. Some good came out of the hype as it drove further investigations and discussion. It certainly didn't live up to the hype, but now people are looking more closely at the cellulose material in wastewater and thinking about how we handle it (think toilet paper!). I see a similar thing as a result of Cannibal. but, look at the hype curve, after the hype bump there's a drop and then a steady improvement in technology. Unfortunately the hype killed the idea for a lot of people. Turns out it was too good to be true for many applications, but still it's a good fit if the wastewater characteristics are right and the plant constraints dictate. There was a sludge reduction technology called " Cannibal" that seemed promising and almost too good to be true. The last thing I want to do is stifle enthusiam for innovation, but equally I've seen a couple of ideas in wastewater treatment "oversold" in the past few years and then die on the vine. If we can discuss it here, then I'm hoping to bring some of those thoughts to the journal article in a less provocative way! In our enthusiasm to advance innovation, are we in danger of just innovating for the sake of innovating? Are we pushing for bleeding edge and shifting from the S-curve to a hype curve? What do you think? I'm purposely putting this in a blog for open discussion so I can be accused of being a luddite or worse in the relatively quiet and safe setting of blogger (really, does anyone actually read my blogs?!). That's the main focus of LIFT and a noble one too. Getting the first installation of a technology or process idea is key in this. The discussion has mostly been focused on how can we accelerate technology adoption up the curve and/or help folks to jump across the "chasm of risk" between the pilot and full-scale. Some ideas are ready for implementation but some need the kinks working out still and yet others may be cool but really don't offer tangible benefits over established technologies.Īnother thought I want to bring to the discussion in this blog (hoping to make it a conversation!) is the " S-curve of technology implementation." This curve has been discussed widely of late amongst wastewater professionals and indeed I'll probably include it in my journal article. We want to be innovating but not just for the sake of innovation. We want to be using new ideas and pushing the envelope of improvement, but not just for the sake of doing new stuff. What is meant by that expression is reasonably self-event. " we want to be leading edge, but not bleeding edge" (I wish I could remember who said it first so I can give them credit, but I've heard several of my colleagues use it since and I overuse it!). At that time one of my colleagues said something that has stuck with me ever since: A few years ago I was involved in evaluating, piloting and designing what was then a pretty innovative process called the "integrated fixed-film activated sludge" or IFAS. As I said, it is an exciting time to be a poop engineer, indeed!īut that's not the focus of this blog well not exactly. Finally there is Envision that enables us to evaluate the sustainability of these new ideas. Add to this initiatives like LIFT and Isle Utilities TAGs that are pushing these new ideas to the fore. It really is an exciting time to be a poop engineer as there are several potentially game-changing processes and technologies emerging on the scene: anammox, granular activated sludge, primary DAF, thermal hydrolysis, struvite recovery, to name but a few. Over the next few weeks I'll be working on an article focused on innovation in wastewater treatment. It doesn’t has Implementation language-C#. VoltDB supports Java API, JDBC, RESTful HTTP/JSON API.
